Recital Information

Recital Information

the-giving-treeThe students of BTS participate in a recital at the end of the school year.  The 2012 recital will be held in May at the Saenger Theatre in Biloxi.  We tentatively have two shows scheduled.

Two weeks prior to the recital, rehearsals will be scheduled both at the studio and at the theatre.  It is imperative that your child attend these rehearsals  Students missing several classes or rehearsals during the months of April and May may be removed from the recital at the discretion of the director.  Continual absence cause unnecessary stress on both the teachers and the students.

This year's Recital will be "The Giving Tree"

Souvenir Programs

In order to help offset the cost of the recitals, advertisements are sold for a souvenir program which is available for purchase at the theatre the day of the recital.  Students purchase space to display their photos with sentiments from friends and family members.  These books sell for $10.00 each.  They are not sold before the day of the recital.

Recital Tickets

Each family receives four (4) complimentary tickets to the recital of your choice.  Any extra tickets which are needed by the family or friends will be sold for $7.00 each.  We use a reserved seating system for ticketing. During our photo days, we will begin distributing the recital tickets.  Although we use a first come, first served system, no one will be allowed to purchase more than six (6) extra tickets (not including the four complimentary tickets) until every student has received at least their four (4) comp tickets.  This is to ensure that everyone has a seat in the theatre.

Costume Prices

  • Small/Medium Child: $60.00 each
  • Large/XLarge Child (S/M Adult): $75.00 each
  • Large Adult: $80.00

Costumes are made to order by the costume companies, there once the costumes are ordered, there will be NO REFUNDS given to anyone REGARDLESS OF THE CIRCUMSTANCES.  There will be no exceptions to this policy.  Tights and shoes are the responsibility of the student.

Costume Payments

Payments are due by October 15th!

The bulk of the costumes are ordered over Thanksgiving.  Because of this, you must permanently settle on the classes you wish to take by this time.  If you decide to change classes after the costumes are ordered, and you need another costume for a different class, you will be required to pay for the new costume, plus a fee of $10.00 to cover the shipping cost.  A $6.00 fee is also charged to any students who needs to exchange their costume for ANY reason.  Advanced students may have rental costumes from our supply. Keep in mind that failure to return these costumes and their accessories will result in your having to purchase these items.

Thank you for choosing Ballet Theatre School for your child's dance education.  With so many students to choose from, we consider it an honor that you have decided to allow us the opportunity to teach your children.  We look forward to working with you during this school year.

Please remember that a very important part of your child's dance education involves the disciple that is required in all forms of dance.  We want the students to enjoy their dance experience, but, at the same time, they are expected to show respect for their teachers and the rules of the school.

You will receive a monthly newsletter to keep you up to date on events taking place at BTS.  If you ever have any questions, or need additional information, please do not hesitate to call the studio and someone will be able to help you.

Expectations

Class Observations

Parents are never discouraged from observing classes at the studio.  However, the teachers request that you observe the classroom from the observation windows located in the lobby and not by entering dance studios.  Too many adults in the classroom during instruction is confusing to the students, especially at a young age.  If your child is not able to separate from you for their allotted class time, perhaps they need to wait awhile before enrolling in dance classes.

If you need to speak with one of the teachers, please set up a time apart from the regular class time for conferences.  The teachers are very limited in their time between classes and any discussions about a student are best done when the teacher is not rushed and there are no other students present.

Lobby Etiquette

  • Loud voices can be heard in the studios. Please do not tap or knock on the observation windows during class.
  • Siblings should remain in the lobby with waiting parents.
  • Do not open the studio doors when class is in session.
  • Please do not answer the telephone.
  • Clean up after yourself and your children.
  • Do not enter the office, sewing room, or storage room unless a studio representative is present.
  • Do not stand on furniture or window sills.
  • Do not swing on the glass doors.
  • Absolutely no gum or colored drinks are allowed in the building.

Safety

For the safety of your children, we DO NOT allow the students to stand outside the building waiting for parents to pick them up.  All students are required to remain in the lobby until their parents arrive in the parking lot.  The younger children will remain in the dance room when their class is finished if the parent is not present.  Please advise your teacher when a student will be riding home with someone other than the parent.  Students are not to be dropped off any sooner than 15 minutes prior to their first class.  The teachers are not responsible for baby sitting any students either before or after class time.  The front door remains locked until 30 minutes prior to the first class each day.

Please park your car in the parking spaces provided...do not park at the end of the sidewalk or parallel to the lot next door. This causes severe traffic jams.

Discipline

Classes can not be conducted properly when students misbehave or are disrespectful to either the teacher or their classmates.  Three warnings are given to a student for improper behavior.  After the third warning is issued and the improper activity continues, the child will be asked to sit down for a short period of time until they are ready to rejoin the group.  If the behavior persists, the parent will be contacted to see if the problem can be remedied.  The director has the final decision on whether a child will be permitted to rejoin class if improper behavior does not improve.  If, at any time, a parent feels the need for a conference with a teacher, please speak to the teacher outside the classroom.  Conferences will not take place in front of other students and/or parents.
